Fellow CanSouth Members-
As Canadian citizens who live and work ‘south of the border’, we have a very unique set of needs and circumstances when it comes to our U.S. financial dealings. Unfortunately, many U.S. banks and financial companies find it impossible to effectively serve us due to the complexity of our international status. It’s because of this very issue that I’d like to share my experience with RBC Royal Bank and RBC Centura Bank – two banks under the RBC Financial Group that teamed up to make my financial life in the U.S. much easier.
My husband Bill and I lived in Canada for many years until we moved to Germany in 2002. After two years overseas (and with our daughter, Meghan attending University in Boston), we came to the U.S. to live and work. When we arrived and began to explore banking relationships, we quickly found that doing something as simple as getting a credit card proved nearly impossible with most U.S. banks because we didn’t have a Social Security number or an American credit record. At first we did bank with another institution, but when it came to a mortgage or car loan, they were not able to provide those services, instead asking us to wait a year until we established a credit rating. We met Carmen McClennon at a CanSouth event and that’s when we discovered how RBC and RBC Centura Bank could help us. Through RBC Centura and RBC Royal Bank, we were able to establish joint accounts for all three of us in both the U.S. and Canada – allowing us to easily manage funds between accounts and countries. In addition, RBC Centura took our Canadian and international credit histories into account for all our lending needs so we were able to qualify not only for U.S. credit cards, but also for a mortgage and car loans. From the moment we first spoke with RBC Centura, they approached us with a keen understanding of our unique status, offered practical solutions that simplified our day-to-day lives, and provided a level of friendly, personal service that you don’t often find these days.
Fast forward two-years – Bill and I are still in the U.S. and still loyal RBC Centura and RBC Royal Bank customers. We now hold all of our financial dealings with these partner banks and our daughter, having graduated from University and returned to Canada, has established her individual relationship with them as well.
If you’re looking for banking services that best fit your U.S. and cross-border needs, I encourage you to explore the solutions at RBC Centura and RBC Royal Bank. I’ve been very pleased with our experience and I think you will be too.
Sincerely,
Susan Rennie
